Susan Artemis and the Dark Side of the Lounge

“The Dark Side of the Lounge” is a concept that I came up with a few years ago. Since then, I have performed several concerts in the “guise” of Susan Artemis and the Dark Side of the Lounge. This is the “mission statement” that I read to the audience at the start of every Dark Side concert:”

“Order a martini and sink back into the cushions of the booth in the farthest corner of the shadowy nightclub. Drink to the end of your last brief affair and listen to songs of lost love, forbidden love, impossible love, dangerous love, love gone wrong, love gone astray. Go ahead, extinguish the torch you've been carrying in this counter-intuitive, crazy, and cathartic review of all the varieties and flavors of rejection, regret, revenge, unrequited love, and longing. You're feeling better, and it's not just the martini. Time passes luxuriously, as you notice that not all the songs are sorrowful: some are bewitchingly romantic. At last, you notice the alluring occupant of the booth next to yours – alone like you, but sharing in the revelation that life goes on, and let's drink to it while we may. This is The Dark Side of the Lounge.”
